Approximately 10% of the world’s population has some form of disability. Many people with disabilities in Latin America and the Caribbean are excluded from labor markets and live in poverty.  There is very limited accessible education and training, and people with disabilities are often excluded from the job markets because of this. In addition, job opportunities often present both physical and non-physical barriers. In order to reduce the social and economic exclusion of people with disabilities, it is crucial to support ideas that can generate income while fighting back the prejudice. Help us create a more inclusive society through innovative solutions.

Participate the I-LAB contests until December 31st of 2012, visiting  http://www.bidinnovacion.org/en/concursos-del-i-lab/

Clarifications about the I-LAB calls

Published: Friday 7 / December / 2012 - Author / Project: The I-LAB Team - 3 Comments

INNOVATION and INCLUSION: these are our key words! The I-LAB contest titled, “Disruptive Ideas” is a call for the public to share ideas with the world. The authors of the best and most innovative ideas in the I-LAB platform will gain the possibility of explaining them in detail to IDB experts.

The contest titled, “Inclusive Finance” is a call for formal proposals that have the potential of bringing inclusion to people with disabilities in the financial sector of Latin America and the Caribbean, both as employees as well as costumers. This particular call is open to financial institutions and public or private entities that are legally established within one of the member countries of the Inter-American Development Bank (for more information about the member countries please visit: http://www.iadb.org/en/about-us/member-countries,6291.html).

In the case of “Inclusive Finance”, if the proposal is not submitted by a financial institution, then the participant must list a financial institution as a partner for the project. Applicants that are not a citizen of, or are not legally established in a member country of the Inter-American Development Bank, may apply through a local partner.

Did you notice? 25 ideas have arrived!

Published: Thursday 8 / November / 2012 - Author / Project: The I-LAB Team - No Comments

Many ideas have already been shared in the I-LAB contest “Disruptive Ideas“. This call for solutions seeks to explore what kind of problems people with disabilities face, and what could be done to promote a more inclusive society. If you think you would like to participate in this challenge but you are not sure about your idea, get inspired looking at ideas that have already been proposed in the I-LAB platform. Here we share some of them:

One of the most voted ideas is the one about training for people with disabilities and an audio-library, where people with disabilities can look for job offers that are inclusive. Do you think you would vote for these ideas? There is also more than one idea involving a loan program through social networks, as well as the increase of teleworking or telecommuting opportunities in the region. What do you think about telecommuting? Visit the voting zone, find your favorite idea, vote and comment what you are thinking!
